POSITION TITLE: Utilities Operator D-1                                 

DEPARTMENT: Planning and Engineering

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the overall operation of TteS Wastewater Collection (WWC), Water Distribution (domestic) and Dam systems to ensure quality of water, health, safety and maintenance standards are provided in the community.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Operates Wastewater Collection (WWCS) System to ensure it is operating effectively for the TteS Reserve. (45%)
  • Completes in-house safety procedures and ensures programs are maintained for safe work practices and occupational health and safety guidelines are adhered to for staff and visitors.
  • Records and performs sampling with current standard methods within Wastewater collection system.
  • Monitors and analyses data from operations and SCADA for lift station sites within WWCS.
  • Collects and record operational data and lab results, forwards to supervisor.
  • Completes safety procedures for construction, inspection and testing of sewers, inspection of manholes and repairs to underground mainline.
  • Clears stoppages, clearing sewers, controlling roots, grease, odors and corrosion in collection system.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of types of motors, supervisory controls, pumps & valves, and other equipment.
  • Examines the condition of a sewer system, follows sewer maintenance program, and safely uses various methods to replace or repair damaged sewers.

 

  • Drafts reports on computer, as records of maintenance and logbook entries of daily duties are required.
  • Completes Service Area annual reporting as per TteS Asset Management Policy/Bylaw.
  • Works closely with specialty companies contracted to perform work with WWC operator on collection system from time to time.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
  •      Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of TteS.

 

  1. Operates Water Distribution (WD) System to ensure it is operating effectively for the TteS Reserve. (45%)

  • Records and performs sampling with current standard methods within the Water distribution system.
  • Monitors data from operations and SCADA for WDS.
  • Collects and records operational data and lab results, forwards to supervisor.
  • Completes safety procedures for construction, inspection and testing of water network elements, inspection of manholes and repairs to underground water main.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of types of motors, supervisory controls, pumps & valves, and other equipment.
  • Examines the condition of water distribution system (watermains, water reservoirs, ARDA raw water system, Paul Lake Dam), set up a water maintenance program, and safely use various methods to replace or repair damaged water system elements.
  • Drafts reports on computer, records maintenance and logbook entries of daily duties are required.
  • Completes Service Area annual reporting as per TteS Asset Management Policy/Bylaw.
  • Works closely with specialty companies contracted to perform work with WD operator on distribution system from time to time.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
  •      Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the TteS.

 

  1. Other related duties as necessary. (10%)
  • Inspects, operates and maintains Paul Lake Dam adhering to BC’s Dam Safety Regulation.
  • Assists with water irrigation systems as needed with coordinating seasonal startup/shutdown.
  • Manages storm water network.

 

 

Professional Certification, Education and Experience:

• Level I EOCP Wastewater Collection and Water Distribution Certificates or the intention of writing such exams.

• Must possess a valid class 5 BC Drivers License.

• Must possess First Aid Level 1 Certificate

• Must Possess Confined Space Entry & Monitor Certificate

• Must Possess Fall Protection Certificate

HOURS OF WORK:      Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
