POSITION TITLE: Water Treatment Plant Operator/Water Distribution Operator

Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the operation of TteS Water Treatment Plant and Water Distribution systems, to ensure that quality water, health, safety and maintenance standards are provided to the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operates the Water Treatment Plant to ensure it is operating effectively for TteS. (50%)
- Maintains the water source, pumping plant, intake, operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant.
- Ensures the completion of coagulation and flocculation procedures and the control of filtration, disinfection, and corrosion.
- Monitors the Water Treatment Plant operation taking samples analyzing results and adjusting flows and chemical additions as required.
- Maintains and calibrates chlorine analyzers, turbidity metres, ph analyzers and pressure switches.
- Investigates system alarms on call outs as required and makes repairs or adjustments.
- Operates treatment plant process computer system (SCADA system for plant Operations.
- Change chlorine and PAC totes with electric pallet jack when liquid level in totes are empty.
- Maintains daily operating records including analysis, flows, water quality and chemical use.
- Conduct tours of the Water Treatment Plant as required.
- Assists with the unloading of trucks delivering materials and supplies.
- Monitors the operation of treatment plant equipment such as filters, FLOC tanks, Sedimentation basins and chemical feed systems.
- Prepares sampling and laboratory tests of plant treatment processes to ensure compliance to standards and initiates adjustment to plant operations in response to test results.
- Monitors equipment operation and makes repairs.
- Report major equipment problems to the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent as required.
- Maintains treatment plant buildings.
- Ability to operate chemical feed systems eg. Chlorine and poly aluminum chloride Stations.
- Participates in community water monitoring program (water sampling weekly).
- Completes in-house safety procedures and programs are maintained for safe work practices and occupational health and safety guidelines are adhered to for staff and visitors.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of TteS.
2. Operates Water Distribution (WD) System to ensure it is operating effectively for the TteS Reserve. (40%)
- Completes in-house safety procedures and ensures programs are maintained for safe work practices and occupational health and safety guidelines are adhered to for staff and visitors.
- Records and performs sampling with current standard methods within the Water Distribution system.
- Monitors data from operations and SCADA for WDS.
- Collects and records operational data and lab results, forwards to supervisor.
- Completes safety procedures for construction, inspection and testing of water network elements, inspection of manholes and repairs to underground water main.
- Operates and maintains a variety of types of motors, supervisory controls, pumps & valves, and other equipment.
- Examines the condition of water distribution system (watermains, water reservoirs, ARDA raw water system, Paul Lake Dam), set up a water maintenance program, and safely use various methods to replace or repair damaged water system elements.
- Drafts reports on computer, records maintenance and logbook entries of daily duties are required.
- Completes service area annual reporting as per TteS Asset Management Policy/Bylaw.
- Works closely with specialty companies contracted to perform work with WD operator on distribution system from time to time.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of TteS.
3. Other related duties as necessary (10%)
Professional Certification, Education and Experience:
- Level I EOCP Water Treatment, and Water Distribution Certificates or the intention of writing such exams, and or post secondary education in a Water Quality Technology program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must posses a valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence.
- Must posses First Aid Level 1 Certificate
- Must Possess Confined Space Entry & Monitor Certificate
- Must Possess Fall Protection Certificate

HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
PAY GRADE: Starting at $25.98 to $38.21 depending on education and experience.
