POSITION TITLE: Irrigation Technician
DEPARTMENT: Planning & Engineering Department

Purpose of Position:
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and design of irrigation systems for landscaping, agricultural, and recreational use. This role involves working with a range of equipment including sprinkler heads, valves, pumps, and automated controllers, to ensure efficient and sustainable water distribution.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities (85%):
- Installation: Set up and install irrigation systems, including trenching, laying pipes, fitting sprinkler heads, and configuring automated controls.
- Maintenance: Conduct routine system inspections, adjust components, repair leaks, replace worn parts, and prepare systems for seasonal changes.
- Repair: Diagnose and resolve both mechanical and electrical issues in irrigation systems, including wiring faults and hydraulic problems.
- Design: Create customized irrigation layouts and plans based on site evaluations and client requirements, ensuring optimal coverage and efficiency.
- Testing: Test systems for performance and functionality, making necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of installations, service visits, repairs, parts used, and customer interactions.
- Communication: Interact with clients to assess needs, explain system functions, provide usage guidance, and offer maintenance recommendations.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of TteS (10%):
- Perform all the duties and responsibilities in accordance with TteS Policies, standards, and procedures.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and understanding of Secwépemc values, traditions, and community protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of TteS.
Other related duties as necessary (5%)
Professional Certification, Education, and Experience:
- Irrigation Tech Level 1 certificate from IIABC and Irrigation sprinkler Blowouts (at least 3 months’ experience).
- Solid understanding of irrigation components, including pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, pumps, and controllers.
- Valid driver’s license (often required for field service roles).
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain irrigation systems.
- Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely on job sites.
- Strong ethics and knowledge of confidentiality.
- Experience working with First Nation communities, organizations and programs.
- It is expected that all TteS employees be willing to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge, and to further their formal training.
HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
PAY GRADE: Starting at $22.59 - $33.22/hour depending on education and experience.
