POSITION TITLE: Cultural Enrichment Worker

Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to support TteS children, youth, and families with Secwepemc Cultural Protocols, traditional knowledge, and language. The cultural enrichment worker will create and work from a cultural, client-centered, and trauma-informed framework. This position will assist in the development, creation, and reviewing of all cultural care plans, and providing cultural support to children, youth and families and children connected with the TteS Family Support Team.
The Cultural Support Worker will ensure that the Cultural services available are accessible to community members with little to no barriers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works closely with families to assess needs and provide services as appropriate, and in accordance with the approved practices, policies, standards, and guidelines. (85%)
- Development and delivery of cultural programming, aligned with the Community Services Strategic Plan.
- Provide programming/ services to meet the cultural needs of children, youth, and families.
- Develops and provides programs/services for children and youth that engage them in learning and participating in appropriate cultural events.
- Co-develop and review all cultural care plans, ensuring the inclusion of appropriate aspects of Secwépemc culture, traditions, and language.
- Ability to develop age-appropriate cultural events/ workshops that promote identity and a sense of belonging.
- The Cultural Enrichment Worker will teach the youth about ceremony and cultural protocols.
- Excellent ability to develop rapport and trust with children, youth, and families.
- Acts as a resource to all staff and community in appropriate cultural practices.
- Leads and engages staff in appropriate Aboriginal Awareness learning events.
- Provides one-on-one support to clients identified by the program manager as needing additional support and who would benefit from working with the Cultural Enrichment Worker.
- Leads and engages staff in appropriate Aboriginal Awareness learning events that meet the standards required of the organization.
- Regular supervision with the Family Support Team, Recreation/Elder Workers.
- Maintenance of ethics and confidentiality requirements as outlined in the TteS Employment Policy.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS Policies standards and Procedures.
- Meets and liaises with internal/ external agencies and committees as necessary to ensure exceptional client service. (10%)
- Connects children, youth, and families to cultural supports and services.
- Regular connection with Elders and community members who are knowledge/ language keepers.
- Maintenance of a collaborative and working relationship with the TteS Language and Cultural Department.
- Attendance at relevant committee meetings and conferences.
- Attends Cultural Ceremonies/activities as required.
- Other related duties as necessary. (5%)
- Assists with the various departmental social functions such as picnics and community gatherings at the direction of the Community Services Manager and/or Family Support Team Lead.
Professional Certification, Education, and Experience:
We are seeking applicants who have a combination of cultural knowledge/skills and/or formal education and/or experience, that have prepared them to share authentic Secwépemc cultural knowledge.
- Solid cultural knowledge and understanding of Secwépemc practices and traditions.
- Experience providing cultural support and/or developing cultural programming.
- Proficient speakers of Secwépemctsin are an asset.
- Must have a current valid Class 5 Driver’s License and own a reliable vehicle.
- Must pass Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check.
Financial Responsibility:
From time to time the Cultural Enrichment Worker will be responsible for purchases that will be required for Cultural purposes
Supervision or Training Duties:
From time to time the Cultural Enrichment Worker will train and teach a Cultural Helper as required.

HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
PAY GRADE: Starting at $30.53 - $44.89 per hour depending on education and experience.
