POSITION TITLE:     Junior Accountant              

DEPARTMENT:              Finance          

SUPERVISOR:                Finance Manager of Not-for-Profit & Finance Manager of For-Profit

Purpose of Position:

 

The Junior Accountant provides support to the Finance Department by performing clerical and accounting duties, including data entry, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable processing, and assisting with financial reporting to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations. Key responsibilities include reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and supporting audit and tax filing processes (95%)

 

 

  • Assist with monthly Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable ledger accounts monthly.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Maintain and update financial records, including ledgers, journals, and expense reports.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, ensuring all entries are accurate and complete.
  • Verify the accuracy of invoices, purchase orders, and other financial documents.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding financial transactions and records.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and report discrepancies in financial records to the Finance Managers.
  • Support the Finance Managers in preparing audit documentation and other compliance reporting, scanning legal invoices, and assisting with annual audit requests.
  • Assist in preparing tax filings and ensuring proper documentation for audits.
  • Reconcile employee expense claims and ensure proper supporting documentation.
  • Maintain organized financial filing systems both electronically and physically.
  • Assisting with internal Adjusting Journal Entries
  • Assisting with auditor Adjusting Journal Entries
  • Providing support to Intermediate Accountants
  • Assists with batch checking on accounts receivable and accounts payable weekly.

 

 

Other Duties as required (5%)

  • Compiling, Filing, and Organization of internal AJE Journals
  • Providing support to Finance Managers for ad hoc projects and reports, and corresponding research

 

Professional Certification, Education, and Experience:

 

  • Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial or clerical role. 
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.

 

Financial Responsibility:

 

Assist with budget tracking and expense monitoring. Responsible for accurate financial data entry and reporting.

 

Supervision or Training Duties:

 

Assist in the orientation of new staff regarding financial procedures.

  • Thorough understanding of intercompany accounts and reconciliation

HOURS OF WORK:      Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.

PAY GRADE:                Starting at $22.59 - $33.22 per hour, depending on education and experience.
