TERMS:                               Full-Time Term until August 31, 2026

Purpose of Position:

 

The Tkek Yeel Stem Camp Cook oversees the planning, development, and implementation of the summer camp menu, ensuring compliance with TteS Administration Procedures and relevant laws. They support teaching efforts in language, history, and culture and manage kitchen operations, including catering to dietary needs, ordering supplies, and supervising kitchen helpers. The cook maintains financial records, collaborates with staff for community gatherings, and fosters positive relationships with TteS members, Elders, youth, and children

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Tkek Yeel Stem Camp Cook oversees the planning, development, and implementation of the summer camp menu.  When possible, will help those who are teaching our language, history and culture.  The incumbent, along with the camp staff, will operate the summer camp program in accordance with the approved TteS Administration Procedures, Finance Administration Law, HR Employee Policy and Procedures Manual, and laws and legislation governing the care of children and youth.  

 

Strategic leadership

  • Ability to prepare dishes for children & staff with food allergies or intolerances.
  • Ability to plan menus for children and youth.
  • Ability to determine size of food portions.
  • Ability to monitor and order supplies.
  • Ability to order supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to supervise kitchen helpers as needed.
  • Ability to keep the kitchen and work areas clean.
  • Proven ability to manage kitchen operations.

 

Financial Management:

  • Ability to estimate food requirements and costs.
  • Ability to manage all accounts payable and receivable accounts and keep an accurate accounting record.
  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with all camp staff and TteS members.

 

Community relations:

  • Ability to work in collaboration with the staff to host gatherings and to provide opportunities for intergenerational teaching.
  • Ability to get along with TteS members, Elders/ Traditional Knowledge Keepers, youth and children.

 

 

Financial Responsibility:

 

Oversee the Tkek Yeel Stem food budget

 

Supervision or Training Duties:

 

There may be times when the Camp Coordinator and/or Cook may need to hire extra cook helpers

 

 

Special Requirements:

 

Knowledgeable of Secwépemc language, history and culture

 

Professional Certification, Education and Experience:

 

Culinary Arts Certificate or equivalent experience.

Food Safety Certificate.

First aide and Transportation certificate.

Basic computer certificate

Proven ability to work with children and youth.

Minimum two years of cooking experience, especially in an indigenous organization

 

Other qualifications, knowledge and skills

 

Can stand for extended periods and carry 50 lbs as needed.

Dependable and reliable.

Ability to take initiative.

Excellent judgement and organizational skills

Team player.

Criminal record check – Vulnerable Sector

Own transportation

Excellent written and Interpersonal communication skills

Problem-solving and critical thinking skills

 

 

HOURS OF WORK:          Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.

PAY GRADE:                      Starting at $22.59 - $24.95/hour depending on education & experience
