POSITION TITLE: Cultural Support Worker
DEPARTMENT: Community Services
SUPERVISOR: Clinical Lead/Team Supervisor
TERMS: Full Time, 3 year term

Purpose of Position:
The Cultural Worker supports individuals and families in crisis by grounding services in Secwepemc cultural teachings, practices and community connection. This role strengthens identity, belonging and cultural safety within crisis response and follow up supports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides Cultural and Spiritual Support. (60%)
- Provide culturally grounded emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and families experiencing crisis.
- Build trusting and respectful relationships with community members through a strengths-based, culturally safe approach.
- Facilitate access to Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural advisors, ceremony, and land-based healing opportunities.
- Support individuals and families in reconnecting with culture, identity, community, and traditional wellness practices.
- Share traditional teachings, cultural knowledge, and connections to Secwépemc values, traditions, and language, as appropriate.
- Assist individuals in identifying cultural supports and wellness practices that promote healing, resilience, and belonging.
- Advocate for culturally safe services and support the integration of traditional healing approaches within crisis response activities.
- Provide cultural guidance and support to Crisis Response Team members when appropriate.
- Maintain respectful relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural leaders within the community.
- Maintain confidentiality and perform all duties in accordance with TteS policies, procedures, and cultural protocols.
- Supports Crisis Response and Reintegration. (25%)
- Participate in crisis response activities as part of the multidisciplinary Crisis Response Team.
- Support cultural safety planning and culturally appropriate responses during and following crisis situations.
- Assist individuals and families in developing connections to ongoing cultural, community, and wellness supports.
- Support individuals transitioning from crisis toward stabilization, healing, and community reintegration.
- Collaborate with Crisis Response Team members to ensure services are culturally safe, coordinated, and responsive to individual needs.
- Participate in case consultations and provide cultural perspectives to support care planning and decision-making.
- Support families affected by crisis through cultural teachings, community connections, and emotional support.
- Assist in identifying barriers to service access and support culturally appropriate solutions.
- Community Outreach and Prevention. (15%)
- Participate in community outreach, prevention, and wellness initiatives that promote mental, emotional, spiritual, and cultural well-being.
- Support the development and delivery of cultural programming, workshops, presentations, and community events.
- Promote awareness of available cultural supports, community resources, and Crisis Response Team services.
- Support team debriefing and critical incident reviews through a cultural lens.
- Participate in community gatherings, ceremonies, and cultural events as appropriate.
- Foster positive relationships with community members, partner organizations, and service providers to strengthen community wellness and resilience.
Participate in team meetings, training opportunities, cultural learning activities, and program development initiatives as required.
Financial Responsibility:
No direct budget responsibility
Supervision or Training Duties:
May provide orientation, mentoring, peer support and knowledge transfer as assigned.
Special Requirements:
Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector required.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Ability to work flexible hours, participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergencies.
Working Conditions:
Office, community, client homes, hospitals and partner facilities. Exposure to emotionally demanding, unpredictable and potentially high-risk situations.
Professional Certification, Education and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience supporting Indigenous individuals, families, or communities; or an equivalent combination of education, training, cultural knowledge, and experience.
- Experience working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and culturally grounded healing approaches.
- Crisis Response and Intervention training, or willingness to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Secwépemc culture, traditions, values, and community protocols.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with community members, Elders, and service providers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
- Flexible, respectful, and committed to ongoing cultural learning.

HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
PAY GRADE: Starting at $34.13/hour depending on education and experience
