POSITION TITLE: A4 –Technical Writer, Archaeology
DEPARTMENT: Knúcwmens le Sxwixwéytemc Archaeology Services Ltd. (KSAS)
SUPERVISOR: General Manager
TERMS: Full-Time, Permanent

Purpose of Position:
Under the direction of the General Manager and in collaboration with the Portfolio Archaeologists, the Technical Writer prepares, reviews, and edits contractual and regulatory deliverables for archaeological and cultural heritage projects. Deliverables include preliminary, interim, and final reports; archaeological site forms; technical memoranda; and letter reports.
Key responsibilities include:
• Conducting background research.
• Managing and processing field data collected in digital and hard-copy formats.
• Preparing regulatory documents and drafting and submitting archaeological site forms.
• Producing clear, accurate technical reports.
• Identifying opportunities to improve operations and archaeological reporting.
• Mentoring KSAS staff in regulatory reporting requirements.
All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc policies and bylaws, the BC Heritage Conservation Act, and applicable guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting and Data Management
- Coordinate analysis and manage digital and hard-copy field data.
- Conduct background research and maintain accurate supporting records.
- Prepare summary, overview, interim, and final reports.
- Review and edit reports for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and compliance.
- Complete final written reports in accordance with permit requirements under the BC Heritage Conservation Act.
Collaboration and Advisory Support
- Liaise with KSAS field personnel and other archaeological staff.
- In consultation with archaeological staff, recommend approaches to conserving and interpreting archaeological findings.
- Advice on opportunities to improve operations and reporting processes.
Mentorship and Organizational Responsibilities
- Mentor KSAS staff at all levels in office-based assignments, including research, data management, analysis, reporting, and archaeological site documentation, in accordance with regulatory requirements and TteS policies.
- Perform all duties in accordance with TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the affairs of TteS.
Assist the Portfolio Archaeologists and other KSAS staff as directed by the General Manager, and perform other related duties as required.
Professional Certification, Education and Experience:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related discipline, together with demonstrated experience producing regulatory deliverables with 4 years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated technical report-writing, leadership, and communication experience.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems and mapping tools for producing accurate, standardized, and legally compliant archaeological regulatory reports (ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth).
- Knowledge of and experience complying with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Experience in Interior Plateau archaeology is an asset.
- Understanding of Secwépemc culture and heritage, or experience working with a First Nations organization, is an asset.

- Communicate clearly and confidently when providing education about archaeology and related regulatory requirements.
- Produce clear, accurate technical documents and manage field data effectively.
- Work independently with minimal supervision in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Coordinate concurrent activities, set priorities, meet project deadlines, and keep staff and colleagues informed.
- Research, verify, collect, and analyze information and prepare reports and supporting documents.
- Demonstrate strong organization, planning, initiative, self-motivation, tact, diplomacy, problem-solving, and judgement.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a team.
- Mentor archaeological team members to support high performance and collaboration.
Special Requirements
This position requires extensive technical-writing experience and expertise in British Columbia cultural resource management. The incumbent must be able to utilize spatial data software i.e. Geographic Information Systems for data processing.
Financial Responsibility
- Track project reporting budgets.
- Ensure the accurate and timely submission of timesheets and Labour, Equipment, and Material (LEM) tickets documenting daily work, resources, and materials for invoicing.
Supervision or Training Duties:
Mentor KSAS staff in field data-collection methods, data management, archaeological site documentation, analysis, and reporting in accordance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and TteS policies and procedures.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid or remote work arrangement.
- Standard working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., including a one-hour lunch break.
HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
PAY GRADE: $35.32- -$44.89/ hour depending on education & experience
